Key Modules
The Training Factory comprises multiple integrated modules: storage and retrieval station, vacuum gripper robot, high-bay warehouse, multi-processing station with oven, sorting line with color detection, environmental sensor, and a swiveling camera. Raw materials are processed through the factory modules following their delivery and storage in the high-bay warehouse, with real-time status updates displayed on the dashboard.
The environmental sensor monitors temperature, humidity, air pressure, and air quality. The camera's vertical and horizontal swivel capabilities provide comprehensive visual monitoring of the entire facility, enabling web-based remote surveillance. Each workpiece is tracked via NFC (Near Field Communication) with a unique identification number (ID), allowing precise tracking throughout the manufacturing process.
Control System
The Training Factory 4.0 24V operates via a PLC system (brand-independent, not included) and comes with a ready-made example program in Structured Text (ST) format. This program was developed based on a Siemens S7-1500 architecture (detailed documentation available in the Downloads section).
The factory features pre-assembled 24V adapter boards that serve as interfaces to the PLC, connected via terminals. These latest-generation adapter boards enable speed control of encoder motors through PWM and include push/pull output stages for phototransistors and buttons.
An integrated Fischertechnik TXT 4.0 controller receives power through the adapter board and establishes connection to the Fischertechnik cloud. This controller communicates via MQTT protocol with the IOT gateway (Raspberry Pi), which translates to OPC-UA for PLC communication. This architecture enables access to 9V-based components such as the environmental sensor, USB camera, brightness sensor, and NFC reader through the MQTT interface. Additionally, the IOT Gateway supports optional connectivity to external cloud systems, providing maximum flexibility for diverse implementation scenarios.
Software
The PLC control program for the Training Factory 4.0 was developed in Structured Text (ST) for a Siemens S7-1500 platform and is accessible through the eLearning portal. This program is also freely available for viewing, use, and download at Github.com/fischertechnik.
The Training Factory is compatible with various PLC models and brands, allowing users to implement customized programming solutions. Minor adjustments to the example program may be required depending on the PLC platform used.
Fischertechnik Cloud
The Training Factory connects to the Fischertechnik cloud via an integrated WLAN router. Chrome or Firefox browsers are recommended for optimal performance (www.fischertechnik-cloud.com).
The cloud infrastructure is hosted on servers located in Germany, ensuring compliance with strict European data protection regulations. Personal data is secured in password-protected accounts using the industry-standard OAuth2 protocol. All cloud communications are encrypted with certificates using HTTPS standards.
